Wayne Gorbea is a salsa/Afro Cuban jazz bandleader from the Bronx, New York. His parents are of Puerto Rican heritage. He taught himself piano by listening to Eddie and Charlie Palmieri records. He has always prominently featured trombones in his sound, and he has stuck to the “salsa dura” sound rather than the bland pop stylings of many at the top of the salsa charts. His band, Salsa Picante, wants you to dance as well as listen to the music. Through many personnel changes in his band, he has been a solid and enduring presence is salsa since the early 70’s.
