Gilberto Santa Rosa will be at the Bataclan, in Paris the 13 July 2019.
Known to his fans as "El Caballero de la Salsa" (The Gentleman of Salsa), singer Gilberto Santa Rosa is a critically acclaimed interpreter of salsa and bolero music. However, the Puerto Rican star is nothing if not flexible, and his albums often exhibit strongly different styles, defying conventional categorization.
Gilberto Santa Rosa's history
Born Gilberto Santa Rosa Cortes in 1962, Santa Rosa grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Interested in music from a young age, he began singing as a teenager. Before long he was performing live, and he went into the studio for the first time at the age of 14. Santa Rosa worked with a variety of musicians in his early years, including the Puerto Rican All Stars, the Tommy Olivencia
Orchestra and the Willie Rosario Orchestra. It was then that he learned to weave improvisation into his music, helping to create the style which eventually became known as "soneo." Santa Rosa would go on to record more than two dozen albums. Additionally, he tours regularly and has demonstrated his eye for talent, having discovered (and signed) Victor Manuelle.
Gilberto Santa Rosa's accomplishments
Active in music since 1976, Santa Rosa has enjoyed a long career, with plenty of praise from both fans and critics alike. He gained recognition quickly, and became the first tropical salsa vocalist to play at New York's Carnegie Theatre. In 2010, Santa Rosa received the key to the city and a star on the Walk of Fame from Union City, N.J. He entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most No. 1 albums on Billboard's Tropical Album chart. This distinction capped three decades spent producing music, including Perspectiva (1991) and Necesito Un Bolero (2014). Several Santa Rosa songs have climbed the charts, too, including 14 that reached No. 1 on the Tropical Songs chart. He has also recorded 10 tracks that have peaked inside the Top 10 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
